Stop feeling like a Junior just because your German is lagging. In a German-speaking tech environment, a Standup (Daily) is about clarity, progress, and blockers. It’s not about being poetic; it’s about providing high-quality data.
Here is your starter kit, divided into three professional modes.
1. Reporting Progress (Status: Done)
When you’ve finished a task and want to move it to “Closed”.
The Logic: abgeschlossen = closed/completed.
Mode [German-Native]: Use the sentence above.
Mode [English-First]: “I finished the API refactoring, alles abgeschlossen.”
2. Current Work (Status: In Progress)
What are you focusing on right now?
The Logic: sich kümmern um = to take care of / to handle. This is your go-to function for “I am working on X”.
(Shows you follow the process).
3. Raising a Blocker (Status: Blocked)
Don’t just say “I have a problem”. Be precise.
The Logic: Ich brauche Hilfe = I need help. Simple, direct, no fluff.
Mode [German-Native]: “Ich habe einen Blocker bei der DB. Wer kann mir kurz helfen?”
4. Estimations & Time
When you are asked how long it will take.
The Logic: fertig sein = to be finished.
Mode [English-First]: “The feature is almost ready, ich bin bis EOD (End of Day) fertig.”
